The Chester Job Is Not A Shaw Thing For Interim Tom

Tom Shaw may be leading Chester into battle this weekend but it seems the stand-in is just that and nothing more.

The 30-year-old will take charge of the Blues on Saturday when Ebbsfleet visit. Chester have gone 14 matches without winning in front of their home fans.

That was part of the reason the club’s board took a difficult decision to part with manager Jon McCarthy following Tuesday night’s defeat against Solihull Moors.

But even if the caretaker does bring about an end that miserable run without a home victory, he told the Chester Chronicle it is maybe not the right time in his life to consider a role in management.

“If we win 6-0 then I will have a think about it, but not really,” said Shaw.

“I love the coaching - I love playing still - but I love the coaching. I found something that I am confident in my ability doing.

“I think the club will be looking to employ a more experienced man than myself, for sure, but I’m not really interested in it and I am very much looking forward to leading the team for these next few games.

“It will be a great experience for myself, and as I have done as a player and a coach I will work as hard as I can to get results and get the best out of the boys.”
