The new manager was delighted with his players at the Shay - and said the only thing that let them down was their finishing.
Torquay have still only won once in the Vanarama National League, and that was of course when they took apart Maidenhead earlier in October.
But they are finally off the bottom of the league thanks to their result at Halifax and Solihull Moors’ 4-2 defeat a little way across Yorkshire at Guiseley.
“We could have been out of sight if we had been a bit more clinical,” the manager said following the draw.
“But I was very pleased with the performance - that was the best I've seen since I got here, and that includes Maidenhead.
“We started positively, always took the game to them and always looked a threat.”
He told Devon Live: “We were murdering them, and they had to change the way they played a couple of times to cope with us.
“We are off the bottom of the league, and that's progress, but we have another tough game coming up at Ebbsfleet on Tuesday, when we'll be trying to turn that draw into an even better result.”
