The 2017-18 Season Review: Looking Back On November

By Sam Elliott

Missing your football already? Well you aren't alone. That's why we're taking a look back at the season month-by-month.

Here's what happened across the divisions in November.

The National League:

Justin Edinburgh was back in the league after agreeing to take the Leyton Orient job.

Steve Davis left Brisbane Road after a nightmare first three months of the season which saw Orient just three points outside the bottom four.

What a month it was for Boreham Wood. Not only an FA Cup win over former Premier League club Blackpool, but big progress in the National League as well. He was named the Manager of the Month.

But the main talking point this month was excitement. At the end of November, three teams were neck-and-neck on 39 points, with Macclesfield just one behind.

Aldershot, Sutton United and Wrexham were loving life at the top but at the other end the size of the job new Solihull Moors manager Mark Yates had on his hands was becoming clearer.

They were rock bottom and in need of a miracle. The former Cheltenham manager was willing to provide.

National League South

Charlie Sheringham was crowned Player of the Month for October - and then left Hemel Hempstead to go and play in Bangladesh.

It`s the FA Cup First Round that gets November up and running but it’s the end of the road for three National League South clubs as Truro lose at Charlton, Dartford suffer a 5-1 home hammering by Swindon and Chelmsford lose at Gateshead.

But Oxford City flew the flag after a superb 1-0 win at Colchester gave them a Second Round tie at Notts County.

Braintree moved level on points with leaders Dartford after beating Bognor Regis 3-0 at CressingRoad, but St Albans are faltering after suffering three successive defeats.

Bottom-markers Whitehawk picked up only their fourth point of the campaign in a 1-1 home draw with Bath.

But shortly afterwards, Tim Harris marked his 300th game in charge of Gloucester with victory over the Hawks, but then surprised the club by resigning.

He would eventually be replaced by Marc Richards, pictured, who soon worked some magic.

National League North

Boston United were 23rd going into December, though with Shaw Lane AFC’s Craig Elliott taking charge, there was confidence they could climb out of the relegation zone.

That confidence was well placed as the Pilgrims soon shot up the table and away from trouble.

Adam Murray, pictured, left York Street following their poor start.

Spennymoor Town epitomised how competitive and unpredictable the league was with a win against Harrogate Town followed by a 4-0 defeat at Leamington.

Salford City were mid-way through a seven-game winning run, that was seeing them pull away with victories against Alfreton Town, Tamworth and North Ferriby United secured.

Tamworth finished the month tenth in the table, and were just two points off seventh, with a 1-0 win at Darlington being their pick of their results for November.
