Team Of The Weekend: The National League

By Sam Elliott

A big weekend, and a big weekend of results and performances. Now we need a big team to match.

There were a lot of players fighting for places this weekend with key battles won at both ends of the National League table.

It’s unlikely you’ll find any dead rubber games with so much to still play for, and here’s what we’ve come up with after Saturday’s matches. This weekend, we’re defence heavy.

Of course, we can’t be at every match - as much as we would love to be!

If you aren’t familiar with our process, we call on eyes and ears up and down the country to make sure our selection is as close to spot on as possible.

But it’s just not football if everyone agrees! Got a point to make? Then make sure you message us on twitter to get your voice heard @TheNationalLge

National League Team of the Weekend:

Goalkeeper: Nathan Ashmore (Ebbsfleet)
Ebbsfleet’s season is suddenly back on track and their goalkeeper was the pick of the bunch as they brought FC Halifax down to earth.

Defender: Adam Buxton (Tranmere)
Up to second and turning the screw, Tranmere are on a roll. The defender kept Bromley at bay at Prenton Park and set up the winner.

Defender: Moussa Diarra (Barrow)
Where would Barrow be without him? Another big display at Maidstone United from the towering Frenchman.

Defender: Keith Lowe (Macclesfield Town)
His partnership with George Pilkington is getting better by the week. Lowe kept Aldershot’s in-form Scott Rendell out of the big 1st v 2nd encounter.

Defender: Scott Harrison (Hartlepool)
Did his namesake manager a big favour with an assured display. More of those are needed with Pools not yet out of trouble.

Defender: Jamie Reckord (Solihull Moors)
The 25-year-old was outstanding as Moors’ great revival took the scalp of promotion-chasing Dover Athletic.

Midfielder: Fejiri Okenabirhie (Dagenham)
Daggers fans may have feared he would be the next player to leave but his two goals against Torquay will surely up the asking price.

Midfielder: Harry Pritchard (Maidenhead)
A second double inside two week for the midfield man. He excelled as the Magpies brushed Guiseley aside this weekend.

Midfielder: James Brophy (Leyton Orient)
Controlled the midfield and ran the game as in-form AFC Fylde, the league’s top scorers, were unable to break down the O’s. He captains the side this week.

Striker: Bruno Andrade (Boreham Wood)
The first of his two goals against Gateshead was a candidate for goal of the weekend. With him in their side, Wood have big chance of earning promotion.

Striker: Ross Hannah (Chester)
The striker doesn’t believe it’s too late for Chester to pull off a recovery and showed it with a well-taken brace against Eastleigh.

Substitutes:

Josh Coulson (Leyton Orient)

David Fitzpatrick (Macclesfield)

Simon Walton (Sutton United)

Luke Coulson (Ebbsfleet)

Davente Rodney (Hartlepool)

Where next?
