The chasing pack had their day as Macclesfield slipped up at home to Solihull Moors while Wrexham, Sutton and Aldershot all won well.
But who were the players that made it all happen?
As we do every week, we get on the phone to club officials, reporters and managers to gage their views on the weekend’s best - and build a squad of 16.
Here is what we’ve come up with following Saturday’s National League games.

We'll be announcing the National League North and South Team of the Weekend tomorrow.
National League Team of the Weekend:
Goalkeeper: Joel Dixon (Barrow)
An outstanding performance from the Bluebirds’ glovesman - James Norwood’s late, late leveller for Tranmere was cruel on the keeper.
Defence: Ryan Astles (Chester)
Chester really needed to win at Ebbsfleet and the centre-back knew it. He kept the Fleet’s formidable frontline in check.
Defence: Louis John (Sutton United)
Played a part in the opener at Gateshead and also kept a clean sheet - this was another great away win for Paul Doswell’s team.
Defence: Jamie Turley (Boreham Wood)
Wood took a good point at Leyton Orient and it was another good defensive showing. Turley won everything in the air.
Midfield: Jim Kellerman (Aldershot)
Seems to know how to score important goals. He’s finding the net a lot this season, a fantastic trait for any midfielder.
Midfield: Stuart Lewis (Maidstone)
Two-goals for the Stones man at Woking in the 4-4 draw. He could have been the hero but for the team’s defensive lapses.
Midfield: Callum Chettle (AFC Fylde)
A fine debut for the on-loan Peterborough United man. Fylde’s improvement confirmed with a solid 1-0 win at Bromley.
Midfield: Mark Yeates (Eastleigh)
Winger Yeates has probably been the Spitfires’ best player this season. They needed this result with teams below them picking up form.
Striker: Dan Sparkes (Dagenham & Red)
Dagenham really needed their attacking players on song against Hartlepool and Sparkes was on song. His two goal inspiration made it a good day.
Striker: Chris Holyord (Wrexham)
This is what Dean Keates signed in the summer. Holroyd’s treble eased Wrexham past Torquay and confirmed a first win over a month.
Striker: Tommy Wright (Sutton United)
A player to watch in 2018 without doubt. Wright’s double at Gateshead will keep clubs looking at him and boss Doswell knows how talented his young forward is.
Substitutes:
Manny Smith (Wrexham)
Steve McNulty (Tranmere)
Scott Garner (FC Halifax)
Joe Ward (Woking)
Jermaine Hylton (Solihull Moors)
