Team Of The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

There’s little room for error at the point in the season - so we’ve got to be very much on the ball with our squad selection.

The National League South Team of the Weekend was a challenge with so many goals and noteworthy wins on Saturday.

But we were helped out defensively by the fact the big game of the weekend ended in a stalemate between Havant and Hampton!

But it’s our job to make sure the top 16 players get their pat on the back so here is what we have come up with.

If you don’t know our process by now, we call on our contacts all over the country to confirm a side who deserve recognition for their weekend displays - they let us know who we have to include and why and we piece it all together!

But sometimes star players go astray. Should we have included your favourite? Join the debate on twitter @TheNationalLeague

The National League South Team of the Weekend

Goalkeeper: Dean Snedker (St Albans City)
How the Saints needed that win at Concord Rangers. They owed a lot to their goalkeeper who was outstanding.

Defender: Josh Casey (Hampton)
Alan Dowson thinks Josh Casey is improving every season and it’s easy to see why. Kept leaders Havant at bay.

Defender: Miles Welch-Hayes (Bath City)
Of course, so much credit went to Bath’s forward players after a 4-0 win over Poole but Welch-Hayes was strong in the tackle and dominated in the air.

Defender: Ed Harris (Havant & W)
Back for the Hawks and back with a bang. The centre-back was outstanding for Havant against Hampton where it’s fair to say defences came out on top. Our captain.

Defender: Ben Gerring (Truro City)
A much-needed win for the White Tigers against play-off rivals Chelmsford and Gerring was Man of the Match in Cornwall.

Midfielder: Sean Rigg (Bath City)
He left the pro game to become a tattoo artist full time a few months ago. League Two’s loss is certainly Bath’s gain.

Midfielder: Rob Sinclair (Oxford City)
On his day, one of the best players in the National League South. Saturday he showed why as Oxford eased past Welling United.

Midfielder: Kaid Mohamed (Chippenham)
So much experience and the former Conference promotion winner with AFC Wimbledon still has that brilliant burst of pace.

Striker: Sam Higgins (East Thurrock)
The league’s top scorer got two more to add to his tally at Bognor Regis - and edge further in front in the race for the Golden Boot.

Striker: Harry Williams (Gloucester City)
Who doesn’t love a super sub? Williams came on to score twice against Hungerford and the Tigers suddenly find themselves six points from the play-offs - and in great form.

Striker: Andy Pugh (Dartford)
Two more goals to add to his tally, Dartford really need him to keep on firing between now and the end of the season. Hemel had no answer.

Substitutes:

Mike Jones (Chippenham)
Andy Watkins (Bath City)
Godfrey Poku (Oxford City)
Connor Riley-Lowe (Truro City)
Tom Webb (Gloucester City)
