The U’s bounced back from consecutive National League defeats to Leyton Orient and Tranmere to record a convincing 4-0 victory at Boreham Wood on Boxing Day.
The win took Doswell’s men back up to second in the table and the boss was pleased with a strong victory.
He told SUFCtv: “We had to defend well in the first half and it was a really good away performance - we didn’t give away too many chances.
“I think 4-0 flattered us but the important thing is we managed to get the three points. Boreham Wood are a good team and I still think they will be right up there.”
Doswell’s men will need all the confidence gained from the win at Boreham Wood this Saturday when they travel to the Moss Rose to take on Macclesfield.
The Silkmen are three points clear at the summit but the Sutton boss says his side have shown they can compete against the best the National League has to offer.
“We’ve had Orient, Tranmere and Boreham Wood and now we have Macclesfield away and it doesn’t get much easier after that,” Doswell added.
“We are second in the League for a reason - we can compete against these teams. There are 20 games to go and we’re edging closer to 52 points that I think we need.
“I’ve said all along, we’ll assess it again after we get to 52. People will think it’s weird saying it but it’s true. We have a squad of players that believe in what they’re about and I genuinely think they’ll keep this up throughout the season.”
