Super Signings! Who Are The January Transfer Hits

By Sam Elliott

Getting your signings on the money could make all the difference, so who are the January transfers who have made an immediate impact? Luke Turner investigates.

Scott Quigley – Wrexham
If you were going to sign anyone to help fire you to promotion, then Dean Keates looks to have found the man in Scott Quigley.

The on loan Blackpool striker linked up with the Dragons in January and has made an immediate impact.

Compared to the teams in and around them, Wrexham aren’t a team loaded with goals (41 so far) so Quigley’s six in his first seven outings have certainly eased the pressure on leading marksman Chris Holroyd.

Quigley, 25, netted a brace on his debut that led to all three points away at Hartlepool. He has since gone on to score in three more games.

If the Welsh side can brush off their tendency to draw games, then Quigley will back himself to be the man to earn his club wins.

Ben Fox – Gateshead

An impressive debut in a 3-1 victory for Heed was capped off in the following two games as on loan Burton attacking midfielder Ben Fox netted twice.

His first came at the International Stadium and it was a goal that not only rescued a point against Woking, but it also won the club's Goal of the Month award for January.

His second? A late winner to secure all three points at home to Maidstone – not the worst way to announce your arrival at a new club.

The 20-year-old also went on to win Gateshead’s Player of the Month after an outstanding first few weeks at the club.

Adi Yussuf – Solihull Moors

After being released by Barrow, striker Adi Yussuf was snapped up by National League relegation rivals Solihull Moors and made the dream start under Mark Yates.

Thrown straight into the starting line up as the Moors travelled to Dagenham & Redbridge, the 26-year-old netted twice in the opening 12 minutes.

That put Solihull well on their way to securing all three points, as the game ended in a 3-1 victory.

Oladapo Afolayan scored the third that day but has since departed the club after West Ham United came calling. Yussuf has slotted straight in and filled the void left by the talented Afolayan.

Will Barrow come to regret their decision to allow Yussuf to leave? Yates made several other shrewd signings in January including Kyle Storer who has also hit the ground running, but the Tanzanian pips it on this occasion.

Nathan Blissett – Macclesfield Town

Snapping up a man with Football League experience and goals at this level was always going to be positive for league leaders Macclesfield.

Nathan Blissett enjoyed a fruitful spell with Torquay United but after spending time with Plymouth Argyle, he now finds himself back in the fifth tier aiming to help fire the Silkmen to League Two - he’s signed a loan deal until the end of the season from Argyle.

A 6-0 hammering at AFC Fylde wasn’t quite the start Blissett would’ve hoped for, but what followed in his next two appearances showed just how vital the 27-year-old can be.
After a run of four games without a win and trailing bottom club Guiseley 1-0 at Moss Rose, Macc needed a boost.

Blissett provided just that with the equaliser and a man-of-the-match display as John Askey’s men snatched a late winner to earn all three points.

And, talking of winners, Blissett grabbed his own in the following game – a top of the table clash at Aldershot.

Macc ran out 2-1 victors with Blissett notching the second. He could prove to be an astute signing as the leaders look to consolidate their position at the summit.
