Stringer Pleased With Side's Bouncebackability

Chris Dickson’s goal midway through the second half capitalised a period of dominance from the Clarets. The City striker reeled onto Mike West’s through ball before directing a powerful effort into the bottom left corner.

The hosts had another penalty claim turned away soon after and were left infuriated when Lee Barnard won a spot-kick for a soft foul just inside the box by substitute Matt Whichelow.

And Stringer felt it was an excellent performance for the travelling Clarets, although the scoreline could have been much larger had Chelmsford’s chances been taken.

The manager told the club's official website that a fourth win from five is a great return for the Clarets.

“I thought it was a tough game to come to seeing as we were not great on Monday night. But I thought the boys were outstanding.” he said. “I felt in the first thirty minutes we could have had five or six. We have hit the woodwork three or four times today. They had a couple of penalty shouts, whether they should have been given I don’t know, but other than that they didn’t have a clear-cut chance on goal and we dominated from start to finish.

“Chris Dickson has hit a great strike which has struck the bar, just before [Chris] Bush’s freekick hit the bar, bounces down and goes out again. We have had some great chances from set pieces to go three or four up at half time. I expected more from Wealdstone.

“For 30 minutes we peppered them and all of a sudden they got a shout in the box. From that they had a go, Dicko’s goal was clinical. I’m an honest person and Barnard’s penalty did not look like a penalty from where I was.

“Overall, I think only getting two goals is disappointing as we should have got more. Our overall application of the game, our energy levels made me think we were outstanding.”

Stringer remained concerned from the way that the home side had their penalty appeals, but continued to point out the positives from the away victory.

“Their penalty shouts came as we were sloppy. The first one they had we have tried to play round the penalty spot, got it caught under our feet and made desperate tackles to get it out.

“I’m not going to let that affect us as I thought we were excellent. On the back of Monday’s result, I am really pleased.”

Dickson scored on 57 minutes to get his first goal of the season and Stringer revealed his delight as the City striker - who found the net 12 times in all competitions last season - got his goalscoring tally for this season rolling.

“If you look at when West put an unbelievable ball in, if Kudos gets out the way then he has scored early on. Communication is key but it was great to see Dicko get on the scoresheet.” he said.

But overall the City boss was pleased with the manner that his side took the points and hopes for maximum points when Truro City travel to Essex next Saturday afternoon.

“Wealdstone’s pitch really suited us. With the running track our pitch is narrow. Nick coaches the lads to play quick, penetrating football. Whereas at home the space is not always there for us to do so.

“I felt we did not play great at home last season but we had the desire to not lose at home. That’s what St Albans did to us on Monday. We could not get the people in the right areas and the game became a lottery. We’ll be ready for Saturday and hopefully it’ll be a good boost ahead of three points at home”.
