Stones Out To Continue Good Run After Gateshead Disappointment

Jay Saunders says Maidstone United must put their home draw against Gateshead last week behind them as they make the long trip to Barrow on Saturday.

The Stones squandered a 2-0 lead at the Gallagher Stadium last week despite the visitors only having ten men.

That would have been Maidstone's fourth consecutive win, enough to lift them into the top six and just a point off leaders Sutton United.

As it happens, they're now ninth, three points off the top ahead of their gruelling trip to Barrow this weekend.

"They have a new manager in charge which is always a different challenge," said Saunders. "They'll play a different way to as they did under Paul Cox."

"It's a long way to go, we just have to go there with a positive mindset. We've had one defeat in our last nine. We should have had three points against Gateshead, we haven't so we have to dust ourselves down and move on.

"At the start of last season, you would have probably taken a point against Gateshead and that just shows how far we've come.

"Mentally we thought the job was done when they went down to ten men and we were ahead.

"Barrow is a tough one but one we can look forward to."
