Stones Manager Jay Should Never Have Had Doubts!

Jay Saunders admits he was fearful his team weren’t up for the challenge before they kicked off against Barrow.

But looks can be deceiving and Maidstone United’s players produced to secure a good early season 1-0 win.

It’s already their second victory and boss Saunders can sense they have moved on from last year’s disappointing campaign.

“We looked really flat in the warm and I was worried,” he said.

“I don’t know why but it was a concern so to get the win was great. Sometimes you get that flatness before a game but they all did their jobs

“Barrow are a good side. They came here with a lot of confidence after beating Chesterfield so it was a big three points for us.

“They try and play and I have seen them and know they’ll be good this season.

“Worgs (Lee Worgan, goalkeeper) hasn’t had too many saves to make and against a side with good attacking players that is a real positive.

“It was a good team performances. We’ve has a decent start and it was nice to get three home points on the board.”
