Stones And Darts Both Keen To Make A Promotion Point

By Sam Elliott

In their last ten fixtures, Dartford have won seven of theirs and Wealdstone eight.

So it’s little wonder managers Dean Brennan and Steve King believe this weekend’s meeting has the potential to be electric between the sides who just don't draw in 2020.

Both bosses know the National League South inside out but both are hoping they have little more than two months left in it.

Leaders Wealdstone have a six point advantage, despite missing the chance to almost put a second hand on the trophy on Tuesday after losing against Chelmsford - just the second time this season they have failed to win at home.

King is a play-off specialist at this level now they look a very good bet for the top seven after becoming a team transformed since the change in the dug-out.

Ahead of the Princes Park showdown, Stones boss Brennan said on the club’s YouTube channel: “Good teams bounce back are we now need to, we need to move from Tuesday.

“We have a points target in mind, and we need to try and achieve that but it’s not going to go our way every week.

“Tuesday night games are really difficult in this league. Chelmsford worked their socks off and full credit to them. Dartford have recruited really well so we’re going to have to dig deep.”

Counterpart King knows his team will need to put in another big performance if they are to topple the leaders this weekend.

“We weren’t vintage on Saturday (against Eastbourne) by any stretch but a win’s a win,” he said after the 2-1 success.

“Wealdstone will be a huge challenge and it’s a game we’re all looking forward to.

“I haven’t set the players a points target but there are a few spots up for grabs and a number of teams will be going for them. Every game’s a big one now.”
