Stockport Have Set The Standard High Says Gannon

Jim Gannon sees no reason why Stockport County can’t soar if they play with the intensity they did on the opening day.

A fantastic 5-1 win over FC United of Manchester was played in front of over 4,500 fans.

County’s supporters were the ones singing and the flying start to their National League North season gave them hope this could be the year they bounce back.

But Gannon warned his players that they can’t take their foot off the gas and tonight it’s part two.

They now have two challenging away games, starting with York City on Tuesday and then they visit Southport at the weekend.

Gannon said: “The players were fantastic, they deserved that.

“They played with energy and the played with style. It was good to watch.

“It was a brilliant performance and it’s always a good feeling when you win on the first day of the season after such a long build up.

“But it’s just a start. Now we have now got to keep that going and going. We have set the standard.”
