Still Waiting, But That Felt Like A Win For Allen!

They may still be waiting, but for Chesterfield manager Martin Allen their very late leveller against Wrexham must have felt just like a long-awaited winning goal.

Yes they still haven’t won a National League game since early August but you wouldn’t have thought that was the case on Saturday.

Jonathan Smith headed home in time added on to extend the Spireites’ undefeated run to five games.

Allen kept his composure after - and refused to say he was happy despite the well-earned point underlining their progress.

“Let’s not get carried away, it’s a draw. It’s another point on the board,” he told the club’s website.

“Am I jumping up and down in the dressing room saying ‘fantastic we’ve drawn with them’? No, I’m not.

“I’m pleased. I wouldn’t say I’m happy. There were some really good performances in our team today. Some really good young players come in and did well - that makes me very happy, that makes me very proud.

“I thought they played with such great desire in the first half. Our players showed such desire, drive, passion, determination without the ball.”
