York City stand-in manager Sam Collins may be excused for thinking he could put one hand on the job with a win at Nuneaton this evening.
The game was called off last month because of international call-ups.
The Minstermen, without a boss since sacking Martin Gary on August 20, have been playing well and on Saturday they ended Guiseley’s good run with a 4-2 win.
Collins said: “We have been playing well in every game perhaps except for Kidderminster and there’s confidence flowing through the side.”
It’s not the only game on as Chester play catch up following the storm damage which hampered their early-season schedule.
Joint manager Anthony Johnson praised his players’ bravery at Chorley on Saturday after an excellent 0-0 draw at the leaders.
But he knows they will need to be at it again on Tuesday - managerless Hereford may still be reeling from a 3-0 home defeat to Spennymoor but the Seals have already slipped up in games they perhaps have thought they should win.
Johnson said: “We were excellent to a man and we are starting to look like a real team but we can’t take our foot off the gas.”
