Stand-In Boss Barrow Thankful For Support

Graham Barrow thanked the Wrexham fans for helping the team through a challenging day.

The National League title chasers announced before Saturday’s FA Cup game with Newport County that manager Sam Ricketts wouldn’t attend the tie.

The decision was made following intense speculation that he is in line for the Shrewsbury Town job.

Wrexham fans responded and lifted their side, so nearly getting a great victory in the all-Wales affair.

Neither side could break the deadlock but stand in boss Barrow was quick to credit the Racecourse faithful.
“It’s been a tough day and it’s a bit sad that it came to that,” he told the club’s website.

“When they asked me to take the match there was never a second thought.

“The passion about the club has always impressed me, so I was only too pleased – I just wish it was different circumstances.

“I think the atmosphere was the biggest lift the players could ask for.”

He added: “I usually think the performance will get you the result and unfortunately it didn’t.

“It got us a result, but not the result we were looking for.”
