The Spitfires left Salford City heartbroken after bowing out on at the semi-final stage on penalties.
They miss out on Wembley after a season to remember - making the promotion places for the first time since 2015 then winning away at Wrexham.
Strevens took over when Andy Hessenthaler left for Dover in late October and the boss hopes that they can go on to great things once the dust settled on their anguish.
“I’m just so proud of all of them,” he said.
“There aren’t many people who thought that would would get to within a penalty kick of Wembley and the Promotion Final but we have.
“But I am gutted at the same time as we have come so close. It hurts.
“The players have been first class for me since I came in and it’s just a shame we couldn’t have one more big moment.
“It’s a tough way to lose any game of football and I am gutted for the guys who missed their penalties because all I asked them to do was to trust themselves.
“Now they have had a taste of it we want there to be more to come.”
