Spennymoor Take Seventh Spot Back After Vital Win

By Steve Whitney

Spennymoor Town took the final play-off spot off Stockport County on Thursday night after edging a hard-fought 1-0 win against a Leamington side who are in need of points at the other end of the table.

The kick-off had to delayed until 8.30 as the Leamington coach had been stuck in heavy traffic on their journey north, and they didn`t arrive at the Brewery Field in time for the scheduled kick-off time.

Once the game did get underway, the 635 crowd saw a scrappy opening 45 minutes with the Brakes just shading the half in terms of opportunities.

And 4 minutes into the second half, Moors were fortunate not to fall behind when Jack Edwards` dipping effort crashed back off the crossbar.

However, when the deadlock was broken, it was the home side who achieved it when Mark Anderson and Ryan Hall combined for the former to coolly slip the ball beyond Leamington `keeper Tony Breeden.

The Brakes had Connor Gudger carried off on a stretcher after a heavy collision in the build-up to the goal.

The visitors did come close to snatching a point in 7 minutes of stoppage time but Junior English and Edwards seemed to get in each other`s way and the ball hit the side netting.
