Southport Reveal Exciting Plans For Future Of The Club

The Vanarama National League North side have announced stadium refurbishment work and plans for the community and college academy.

With the side just outside the play-off places, with Kevin Davies doing a fine job, the Sandgrounders have now revealed ambitious plans for off the pitch as well, writes Tom Feaheny.

These include the redevelopment to the Merseyrail Community Stadium, with the Grand Stand being refurbished with that work being completed before the start of the 2018/19 season.

“The history books speak for themselves but today we start a new chapter at Haig Avenue, as we launched the vision for the coming years and I for one am delighted to be part of this exciting journey that we are on," CEO Natalie Atkinson told the club's website.

"The overall and long term vision of Southport Football Club is to continue building a local football club that is both successful and sustainable on and of the football pitch."

An event held today let residents see the launch of the ideas that will be taking place for the club going forward.

There is also the plan for Southport College Academy scholars aged 16-19 years old, with a high quality education NVQ football programme the aim.

Atkinson said that the aim of the club was clear to herself and those associated with Southport.

"We are aspiring to be back in the football league and achieve the status of being the focal football club of the town."
