Something For The Weekend: Vanarama National League

By David Richardson

The next lot of Vanarama National League fixtures are right around the corner - we've picked out three key games coming up this weekend.

Aldershot Town vs Wrexham
Gary Waddock's Shots host the National League leaders in a huge clash at the top. Sixth-placed Aldershot have won their last two games having previously only one won once in seven. They made the long trip to Hartlepool last Saturday and came away with a 2-0 victory and before that beat AFC Fylde 2-1 at home. They didn't play on Tuesday night due to a power cut at their opponents Bromley.

Visitors Wrexham have lost just once in their last 16 National League matches, a run that has moved them to the summit. They boast the best defence in the division which has conceded just 12 times. They're tasked with keeping out the joint most potent attack against an Aldershot side that has netted 33 goals. Wrexham kept their twelfth clean sheet of the season on Tuesday night to notch a third consecutive win.

Chester vs Dagenham & Redbridge - Live on BT Sport
The BT Sport cameras head to the Swansway Chester Stadium as rejuvenated Dagenham look to further close the gap at the top. But for Chester, they must start picking up wins under Marcus Bignot as they lie three points from safety. On Tuesday, the Blues drew 2-2 at Leyton Orient despite the hosts playing with ten men for over half the match.

Dagenham had only won once in six before consecutive victories over Guiseley and Dover Athletic. It was their win on Tuesday night, that knocked Dover off top spot, while moving themselves up to fifth and five points behind Wrexham. John Still's side have the joint best attack in the division and they'll need to be firing again on Saturday.
The match kicks-off at an earlier time of 12.30pm.

FC Halifax Town vs Eastleigh
Two National League strugglers match-up at the Shay Stadium both knowing a win would significantly change the mood at their clubs. The hosts last won in the league on September 23rd, ten games ago, and they've slipped to 17th place. On Tuesday night, Billy Heath's newly promoted men were thumped 4-0 at Hartlepool United.

Eastleigh came back from two down to draw 2-2 at home to Maidenhead United in mid-week but have only won once in their last six. They sit a place below Halifax and will have been looking over their shoulders at the teams below them.
