Something For The Weekend: National League's Feast!

By Steven Coney

Saturday represents your final chance to watch some football before Christmas Day so you need to choose wisely.

Don’t even think about doing some last minute Christmas shopping because the National League is serving up a feast.

We’ve picked out some crackers that look set to warm you up even in the coldest of temperatures!

Wrexham v Dover Athletic

Now this is a big one. The Dragons were disappointing in their recent defeat at Macclesfield Town so this is the perfect opportunity to bounce back. Dover just keep on rolling and beat Hartlepool 4-0 last time out. The two stingiest defences in the league will be on show so don’t expect too many goals!

Sutton United v Tranmere Rovers

The U’s were well beaten at Leyton Orient two weeks ago but they have had a brilliant campaign so far. The same can’t be said for Tranmere but they are hitting form at just the right time. Seven goals and six points in their previous two fixtures represents improvement and Micky Mellon’s side could fire a loud warning shot to the rest of the league at Gander Green Lane.

Bromley v Macclesfield Town

The Silkmen are on top and are now there to be shot at. Bromley haven’t won in three League games and conceded six goals in their previous two but are just outside the play-off places. This is a big test for Macclesfield and one they will likely need to pass if they have real aspirations of returning to the EFL.

Guiseley v Aldershot Town

This game has big ramifications for both the top and bottom of the table. Guiseley were beaten late on in extra time at Gateshead on Wednesday night in the FA Trophy. Will playing 120 minutes cost the Lions on Saturday? Only time will tell but if they’re not at their absolute best, the Shots will take advantage.

Maidstone United v Leyton Orient

The Stone haven’t won in four National League games and have struggled for goals as of late. Orient could pull further away from the relegation zone with another victory under new boss Justin Edinburgh. Their win against leaders Sutton United was impressive - can they follow that up?
