Something For The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

Things may not be decided at the top this weekend but at the bottom, two clubs could know their fate - with another a lot clearer.

Whitehawk and Bognor Regis could be relegated from the National League South if results go against the Sussex sides.

Meanwhile Poole Town, third from bottom, will be planning their Southern League return if they don’t defeat Wealdstone.

We’re at a cut-throat time of the year where cruelty comes into play.

So we’ve picked the top three games to watch out for this weekend with so much to play for in the race for the title, the play-off places and of course down at the wrong end.

It’s tough at the top and at the bottom - and things may become a lot clearer by Saturday evening.

Havant & W v St Albans City

It was a Tuesday night of frustration for both of these two clubs.

Havant saw their home game with East Thurrock washed away - and Dartford jump above them on goal difference. While St Albans hoped to end the day in third but instead thanks to another defeat to a side staring relegation in the face, found themselves in sixth.

St Albans are better against the sides nearer the top and Havant just need to keep winning and hope for good fortune elsewhere.

Eastbourne Borough v Dartford

New leaders Dartford just don’t know what they are getting this weekend against a side who can’t make up their minds!

Eastbourne’s form reads loss, win, loss, win, loss, win. If the pattern continues on Saturday, the table toppers could be on the end of a difficult result.

But Tony Burman’s team are in great form - and if their results are anything to go by the the inconsistent Sports will have their work cut out.

Whitehawk v Welling United

If results go against them this weekend we could be about to lose Whitehawk. Some 13 points from safety, they have managed to prolong the drop for much longer than anyone anticipated.

But beware the promotion hunter. The Hawks knows how to dig their claws in - just ask St Albans, thrashed 3-0 on their own pitch last weekend, or then leaders Havant who were held to a goalless draw at the Enclosed Ground over Easter. They play a Welling United side who badly need a win.

But Whitehawk may not be alone in dropping. If Bognor Regis lose to Hemel then there’s every chance they may beat them to the Bostik League.

National League South fixtures:
Bath City v Hungerford
Bognor Regis v Hemel
Braintree v Concord Rangers
Chippenham v Truro City
East Thurrock v Chelmsford City
Eastbourne v Dartford
Hampton & RB v Gloucester City
Havant & W v St Albans City
Poole Town v Wealdstone
Weston v Oxford City
Whitehawk v Welling United
