Something For The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

After FA Trophy duty, the National League South returns for our viewing pleasure this weekend.

It’s back with a bang with a number of interesting fixtures.

We’re marking your card ahead of Saturday’s programme - just in case you need a little guidance of where to find a game!

Here’s our selection of three matches you won’t want to miss..

Wealdstone v Braintree Town

This will be the big test of where Braintree Town are according to their manager Bradley Quinton and it’s difficult to argue against that.

Joint top of the league, a victory at Grovesnor Vale will tell the rest of the league they have staying power.

It’s a big game for Wealdstone too. Despite huge improvement since Bobby Wilkinson’s arrival, they are yet to make the leap into the play-off places. That’s the club’s ambition - they can lay down a marker this weekend.

Bognor Regis v Concord Rangers

This is your classic six pointer. Bognor, fresh from FA Trophy success over Hemel Hempstead, are starting to get their act together.

Four important points from their last two games, a win at St Albans and a point against in-form Oxford City, represents good recent value. But Jack Pearce’s team remain second from bottom.

If they beat Concord Rangers they jump out of the relegation zone but the Essex club have enjoyed a similar upturn. Beating Chippenham 4-2 in their last league game having drawn 3-3 at Welling proves they can score the goals to get themselves out of trouble. Now to stop conceding them!

Bath City v Hemel Hempstead

It may have taken a little time, but Jerry Gill is now getting his claws into Bath City. The Romans are going for a hat-trick of National League South wins.

City are on a roll and Hemel aren’t in bad form themselves. Dean Brennan’s team may have lost star striker Charlie Sheringham but they are by no means a one man team.

Undefeated in five but having slipped out of the top seven thanks to two draws on the bounce this winner of this one will be looking towards the Christmas programme with confidence.
