Sofa So Good For Stay-At-Home Slough Town's Players

Scott Davies revealed a Sunday on the sofa was behind his Slough Town side hitting top spot.

The new National League South leaders climbed to the summit with a convincing win at Aveley - but the Rebels boss admits he is still more worried about staying out of trouble.

His players would have been in a spot of bother had they been spending their downtime between matches out and about.

Player-boss Davies ordered them to all stay at home and get their minds on the match in Essex and even called every one of them to make sure they had kept to their promise.

“I warned the boys on Saturday about not going out on the sunny Sunday Bank Holiday and they stayed in,” he said.

“I actually rung round them all yesterday to make sure I could hear silence in the background and not one of them went out. That really paid off. There are so many positives to take.

“It’s all about mentality in football. We spoke about it in the changing room. For me, it’s nine tenths of the game.

“On Saturday we play Weymouth who are bottom and we go into the game top. We are going to instill focus into the players this week in training.

“I’ll be honest, I have just had a look at the table and I’m looking at the relegation places and trying to build a gap. I can’t be any more truthful than that!

“We’ve got a fit side. Playing Saturday-Monday it was always going to be difficult but with the fitness that we’ve got we give ourselves a chance of being successful.”

Slough have taken 12 points from five games but know how it feels to be a slow starter. Davies backed Aveley, who have one point on the board, to get some wins on the board soon.

“They are a really good football club, they has a great season last year,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“They have actually had a similar start to what we had last year and I see no reason why they won’t start climbing the table like we did.”
