So What’s In Store In The National League North On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

As we wave goodbye to 2018, the question is will two of the surprise packages sign off in style?

Bradford (Park Avenue) and Chorley have kept the rest at arm’s length this season - now they want to say goodbye to the year in a fitting way.

Both, though, fact tough away games. Leaders Bradford are at Boston United while Chorley travel to Curzon Ashton.

For Chester it’s been a year of highs and lows but a win at Hereford, who themselves have had a mixed 12 months, will give great hope going into 2019.

Stockport County fans may feel a title charge coming.

To close the gap they need to keep winning - a home game with Kidderminster, whose form continues to be inconclusive, offers them that chance as the former Football League clubs clash at Edgeley Park.

Altrincham are still in fifth and will fancy the points against a Guiseley side who were just thrashed 5-1 at home to Bradford.

FC United were on the wrong end of that scoreline too against Chorley.

But for Neil Reynolds’ side to get back on track they need to halt the charge of freescoring Spennymoor Town.

Darlington thrashed York City 5-1 on Boxing Day - now their fans want more of the same against improving Ashton United.

Southport are very much on the rise having won five of their last six games. Their climb away from trouble will continue if they win at home again against Alfreton.

The last thing York need right now is a trip to the league’s form side.

Like Southport, Blyth Spartans have taken 16 points from their last six games. York, meanwhile, have lost each other their last four away games.

AFC Telford are only out of the top seven on goal difference. If they beat Leamington then they have ever chance of returning to the play-offs.

Bottom club Nuneaton are seven points away from safety but face another tricky away day at Brackley Town.
