Four of our clubs made it into the last eight by finishing in either first or second place at the group stages - and last night two of them secured a semi-final slot.
Sutton United did it in style, a fantastic 3-0 victory over Manchester United’s talented young side was watched by almost 2,000 supporters.
Finley Barbrook, Nana Boateng and Jack Wadham all scored leaving manager Steve Morison to say: “I’m delighted. It was a fantastic performance.”
Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson was thrilled too after his team held their nerve to defeat Newcastle United at the J.Davidson Stadium.
The Robins resisted a Magpies fightback when Justin Amaluzor headed his team back on level terms in the last minute.
The won through on penalty kicks and Parkinson said after the 3-3 draw: “It was a really interesting game. I knew it would be a high-scoring match and although we should have been well out of sight it was certainly entertaining.”
On Tuesday March 11, the second two semi-finals take place.
Braintree Town were brilliant in the group stages, winning all their four matches, scoring 11 goals in the process.
Brighton & Hove Albion stand between them and the semi-finals, with the Seagulls heading for Essex in a few weeks’ time.
