Slough Look To Show How Much They Have Progressed

Slough Town’s two managers says the club are better equipped to pull off a big FA Cup upset a year on.

Last December Rochdale rolled the Rebels over 4-0 in a game live on BT Sport.

But twelve months later, Neil Baker and Jon Underwood have taken the club into the National League South and they have settled well in their new surroundings.

On Sunday it’s Gillingham at home - and they hope to show how far the club has come on by taking a League One scalp at the second attempt.

We spoke to the joint managers after training on Saturday morning - and they says there’s a real confidence running through the side.

Underwood said: “Last year I think we maybe were a bit distracted by the occasion.

“Many of the players hadn’t been on TV before, or played in a game of that size and maybe that played on a few minds.

“But a year on things are different, hopefully we have learned from that experience. I think the club has progressed since that night. We have had a promotion and we have had a good first half of the season.

“We’re ready for it and better prepared. It should be a great game.”

The pair have been in charge for five and a half years and they both got a good sense of perspective this week.

Baker recalled: “A video flashed up on our twitter feeds of a game in our first season.

“We played Beaconsfield, and there were about 20 people behind the goal.

“It’s going to be another huge crowd on Sunday and it fills us with so much pride to see the club as strong on and off the pitch as it is today.”
