The Silkmen shone in front of the BT Sport cameras with striker Scott Wilson netting a hat-trick.
Scott Boden’s 73rd-minute strike had pulled Wrexham level after Wilson’s early goal but the striker added two more before David Fitzpatrick scored Macclesfield’s fourth.
The Dragons had conceded just 14 goals heading into the top of the table clash at the Moss Rose but Askey’s men put them to the sword in the snowy conditions.
The early result pushed the Silkmen to the summit of the Vanarama National League and they now remain there after Sutton United lost 4-1 at Leyton Orient.
Askey said: “I was pleased with how we played and to come away with a 4-1 win gives everybody plenty of confidence.
“We had more chances and could have scored more. Considering Wrexham have conceded the lowest amount of goals in the division, it’s very pleasing.
“We need to reinforce the squad as we couldn’t fill the bench today, but we’ll have to see whether we can do that. We’ll just keep going and see where it takes us.
“Everybody is playing well and is full of confidence. Hopefully we can have a good Christmas period and still be up there.”
