Shots Supporters Go Extra Mile To Boost Promotion Push

A sponsored walk to raise money to boost the chances of Aldershot Town gaining promotion exceeded all expectations in raising a magnificent total

Led by club Director Tommy Anderson and vice-chairman of supporters group The Shots Trust, Robin Carder, seven fans undertook the 22-mile walk, from The EBB Stadium to the group of Maidenhead United York Road, ahead of the 3-3 draw.

I am absolutely delighted to have hit over the 4,000 mark, and my utmost respect goes out to the hundreds of Shots fans who have backed us in their numbers and enabled us to reach this figure," said Anderson, who runs the `Boost the Budget` scheme to provide additional transfer funds for manager Gary Waddock. “Our original target was £1,500, so to raise as much as we have is really overwhelming!

The money raised will now go into our `Boost the Budget` coffers and is available to Gary as and when he needs it. I will be speaking with Gary in the next day or two to determine where we can best use the money raised. Once again, I want to thank each and every supporter for their great backing and also the six other hardy walkers for their efforts and endeavours in making the walk such a great success!

Having left Aldershot at 6.20am, the seven walkers also including Steve and Hayley Jordan, Darrell Woodford and Martin and Freddy Snell headed down the Queens Avenue and through Farnborough, Frimley, Camberley, Swinley Forest, Martin Heron, Winkfield and Holyport on their way to Maidenhead.

Nine-year-old Freddy and his father acted as the initial pacesetters and exceeded expectations by making it to the 12-mile point before allowing the remaining five walkers to continue their route, and was re-united with the group 200 yards from the finishing line!

Launched in September 2016, `Boost the Budget` has already helped Aldershot Town to sign several key players, including Ipswich Town loanees Kundai Benyu, Adam McDonnell and George Fowler and Oxford United winger Johnny Giles.
