Shots Sign Eastleigh Striker On Loan

Aldershot Town have signed striker Ross Lafayette from Vanarama National League rivals Eastleigh on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old, who scored a late winner for the Spitfires in their FA Trophy tie at the EBB Stadium in December, has 5 goals this season in a dozen starts since joining from Luton Town last summer.

Lafayette had made his name with two prolific seasons at Welling United, scoring 22 goals in 2012/13 as the Wings won the Conference South championship, and then a further 15 in 2013/14.

He began his career with Beaconsfield SYCOB and went on to play for Chesham United, Barton Rovers, Aylesbury United, Wealdstone, Aylesbury FC and Burnham.

Twelve goals in twenty-four starts for Hemel Hempstead Town in 2011/12 then earned Lafayette the move to Welling United.

Lafayette said: “I haven’t started as much as I’d have liked at Eastleigh but I’m feeling fit and healthy, and have been scoring as a substitute, and am looking forward to helping Aldershot Town move up the table to where we need to be,” said Lafayette, who again came off the bench in Tuesday’s FA Cup Third Round replay against Bolton Wanderers.

“My time at Welling is in the past, this is a new chapter, but if I can continue that kind of scoring rate that will stand me in good stead. That’s what I want to achieve here.

“Eastleigh have played against Aldershot Town three times this year and the team were definitely creating some chances. Fingers crossed, if I can get on the end of them, hopefully I can put them away.”
