The Blues defended superbly to earn a point and put an end to their four-match losing streak in the National League.
Chester are still eight points adrift of safety but Bignot says his young side can take plenty of confidence into their final eight fixtures.
“The character, the endeavour and mentality the players shown was fantastic,” Bignot told the club’s website.
“It’s a really good point and will give the players plenty of confidence. We haven’t had a clean sheet for a while and it’s a superb base for us to build from.
“Nobody can question what the players are giving. We found a different way to get a result today and that’s a massive step in the right direction.”
Things don’t get any easier for Bignot’s men - they travel to second-placed Sutton United next Saturday in desperate search of points.
“We’ve put some good performances in against the teams that are up there,” the boss added. “We need to learn and develop and I’m really pleased with how this young group is evolving.”
