Shayman Star Johnson: Defensive Unit Key For Town

Sam Johnson says the work he does is being helped by the defence in front of him.

The Shaymen have conceded just five goals in the opening eight matches and currently have the second meanest defence in the Vanarama National League, writes Tom Feaheny.

Johnson told the club's website about the importance of the back line.

“We pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets, Scott Garner and Matty Brown are different class in front of me and they were last season as well.”

He added: "So, we’ve just got to keep that going and hopefully we can pick up some more points if we can get in a few more goals.

Billy Heath's side have yet to concede on their travels and Johnson says they have a belief they will pick up points on the road.

“I think we’re looking forward to going away from home this season. We’ve got a good following with us and we haven’t conceded a goal yet away from home so hopefully we keep that up.”

The keeper thought the team could have gained more points than their current total as well.

“Sometimes it just doesn’t fall for you and I think we were a bit unlucky, especially in the first half when he hit the bar and hit the post quite a few times. Hopefully that luck will change in the next few games.”
