Shaw Says Goodbye - And Says Dover Deserve Credit

By Sam Elliott

Tom Shaw has seemingly taken his last game as Chester manager - and his spell in caretaker charge didn't end the way he wanted.

A 4-0 defeat to Dover shows whoever takes over at the Deva that there is a lot of work ahead.

But Shaw thanked the players - and believes Chris Kinnear's Dover have all the tools needed to stay up at the top of the Vanarama National League.

"They aren't pretty, but my word they are effective," said Shaw, who expects a new manager in place by next weekend. "Hats off to their manager for the way he sets them up.

"They grind you down. It is completely different to anything I have ever seen but it really works for them. They are man for man all over the pitch and it gives you no space at all.

"It's not sincrenised swimming. You don't get points for being pretty - if I have learned one thing it's that playing nice football and working hard isn't enough. Every one of their players is quick, strong and mobile.

"Their endeavour and physically all over the pitch was the difference.
This division is decided in both boxes is and we were quite strong enough in either unfortunately."

Shaw has enjoyed his three games as stand in despite just one point earned in that time.

He told the club's audioboom: "I would like to thank the players for giving me everything. I would to thank the board and the supporters too, it's been a big learning curve for me.

"It's a club that has the potential to go places. The new manager has got to find a way to get the Deva Stadium rocking whilst getting results."
