Seven Week Siren Is Sounded Ahead Of A Brilliant Weekend

By Sam Elliott

Just like that, there’s now just seven weekends of the regular National League season to go - and we’re still none the wiser about who’s going to be playing on past April 20.

If you think the play-off race is entertaining, try keeping up with events at the bottom! It’s sure to be a gripping final month and a half, and Saturday sees another Wembley mission catch light with the FA Trophy quarter finals occupying some of our sides.

Gateshead, Bromley, Barnet, Wealdstone and Solihull Moors all head into battle but the silverware chase won’t steal focus with a brilliant weekend of league action before Tuesday’s full programme.

Another matchday, another huge game down the bottom involving two of the main protagonists in the box office relegation drama.

York City know they simply cannot keep losing if they want to avoid a National League North return after a nightmare start for new manager Adam Hinshelwood following two rotten home reversals.

Phil Brown gave Kidderminster Harriers a much needed new manager bounce but is facing the toughest test yet of his Aggborough stay, pulling his players up off the floor following their last minute defeat at troubled Woking on Tuesday. Both sides are in the bottom four.

It’s not the only big one down the bottom as two other teams in the thick of it come together with Maidenhead United and Dorking Wanderers both scrapping for survival.

Chesterfield can re-establish their 20-point advantage after a troubled few weeks if they beat AFC Fylde - but the Coasters are suddenly back in form. Big wins over Maidenhead United and York City have given their survival bid a huge boost and the Spireites have just one win in five.

There’s a live TNT Sports game coming and there’s always extra needle when Southend United play Dagenham & Redbridge.

Join Matt Smith and the TNT Sports team on Saturday from 5pm when they bring exclusive coverage from Roots Hall and of course guide you through all the day’s action.

Both sets of fans may think they’re a little too far off the play-off pace but those above them will say they’ve got every chance. Two of the teams desperate to get in there are Aldershot Town and Oldham Athletic and just a point keeps them apart heading into their clash in Hampshire.

Altrincham are back on track and they come up against a Woking side with their tails up after two heart-stopping injury time winners inside a week. Manager Michael Doyle says the hard work is only just starting.

Boreham Wood are 16th but remain potentially only one loss from the bottom four. They go to FC Halifax Town, who can’t let the gap between themselves and the top seven get any bigger.

Oxford City and Rochdale’s season may appear done but both managers are determined to end in strong style.
