Searle’s Young Iron Full Of Steel And Ready For The Future

Braintree Town became the first National League team to be relegated - and straight away started looking to the future.

The Iron’s return to the league lasted only once season following their play-off success last May.

But they went down with pride, a gutsy 2-0 victory over promotion hunting Gateshead on Saturday at least lifted them from the foot of the table.

Manager Danny Searle says the building blocks have been in place for quite a while.

Braintree’s young team have been steadily improving and their boss hopes for a challenge back in the National League South next term.

“I'm looking to the future for this club and changing the culture that has been around for some time,” he told the club’s website.

“We know you have to be consistent win games and get the crowds back to watch us.

“Saturday was a professional performance from our young players. They retained the ball well, kept pressing all the time and they never gave up.

“The average age in the side is now 21 and that is the way forward for this club."

Searle wants a big final month of a disappointing season, starting with another win away to Wrexham next weekend.
