Saunders Boosted As Skipper Commits To The Stones' Cause

Maidstone United have been given a big early close-season boost with some important news.

Captain Stuart Lewis has agreed a new contract at the Gallagher Stadium and will remain for 2018-19.

Fans’ favourite Lewis, 30, has been one of the club’s most consistent players in recent years and was jointly awarded the manager’s Player of the Year.

He will sign the deal next week, but boss Saunders says everything is in place and the player will put pen to paper.

Boss Jay Saunders said: “He is consistent, he is captain, he’s a big character in the changing room and someone I wanted to keep.

"His work rate is second to none and he has that experience,” he said to Kent Online.

"I think he has enjoyed his time at the club and he wanted to stay. He's been excellent. He is settled here and I am delighted to get him onboard again."
