Saturday`s Vanarama National League Review....

Tranmere Rovers stunned out-of-sorts Vanarama National League leaders....

....Forest Green Rovers with a confident display at the New Lawn to earn all three points and move to fifth in the table.

New signing, veteran striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher, scored with his third touch in a Tranmere shirt before James Norwood came back to haunt his former club to make it 2-0.

The pair combined to devastating effect inside 5 minutes, Norwood bursting clear on the left and squaring for Taylor-Fletcher to finish neatly in the bottom corner of the net.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute when Norwood soared to meet Louis Maynard's cross and planted a header past the helpless Jonny Maxted.

Although the possession stats show Forest Green had plenty of the ball, they rarely threatened to get back into the game.

And their only consolation was that near-neighbours Cheltenham Town could only manage to pull one point back on them after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Eastleigh.

Chris Todd`s first game as permanent boss of the Spitfires didn`t start too well when the Robins took a 20th minute lead.

Jack Barthram`s cross was met by Jack Munns who fired past Ross Flitney from six yards.

Little was seen of the visitors as an attacking force in the opening 45 minutes, although Will Evans did go close just before the break.

But the second half saw them come more into the game and they were rewarded with an equaliser in the 77th minute when Ross Lafayette – on as a substitute just 3 minutes earlier – headed Jai Reason`s cross past Dillon Phillips.

Phillips saved well from Andy Drury near the end, but a draw was probably about right on the day.

Dover Athletic are third after beating Macclesfield Town in a tense encounter at Crabble.

The opening 6 minutes saw two goals, with the visitors taking the lead when Dover `keeper Mitch Walker made a mess of Kristian Dennis' weak shot and allowed Danny Whitehead to tap into an empty net.

Dover's response was immediate and 2 minutes later were level when a long-ball over the top beat the offside trap and keeper Shwan Jalal came rushing out of goal and Stefan Payne beat him to it to slot home.

Whites were far from their best in the second half, inviting pressure on themselves but after a shaky first half, Walker was exceptional in the second.

The best of his saves came 5 minutes from time when Whittaker spun in the box and crunched a half volley goal-bound from ten yards out but Walker flung himself to his left and turned around the post superbly.

Five minutes into the second half, Whites were ahead very much against the run of play. Ricky Miller was tugged back in the box by Dan Cowan and Nicky Deverdics made it 2-1 from the resulting penalty.

Walker denied Whitehead for a second time as the visitors pressed and pressed while Dover dropped deeper and deeper but they held on for what could be a vital three points.

Grimsby Town are fourth but had to settle for just one point from their long trip to Plainmoor against Torquay United.

The Mariners, fresh from hammering another of the strugglers, FC Halifax Town 7-0 in the week, found themselves a goal down after 38 minutes through Tyrone Marsh's close-range header.

But Omar Bogle equalised with 11 minutes remaining after he had been fouled in the area by Gulls' keeper Fabian Speiss.

Grimsby had two efforts cleared off the line but Torquay held on to extend their unbeaten run under new player boss Kevin Nicholson to three games.

Injury-hit Bromley side left the EBB Stadium with a point against Aldershot Town following a 1-1 draw.

A scrappy first half at saw Aldershot open the scoring after 38 minutes, thanks to a deflected shot from Charlie Walker, the ball just out of the reach of on-loan Bromley keeper Chris Kettings.

Bromley responded within 3 minutes, Ugo Udoji sending a cross into the box where Jack Holland was first to the ball with a fine header past Phil Smith in the Aldershot goal.

The second half delivered more of the same with both sides creating few chances. However, the game turned on 81 minutes when Shots` Jake Gallagher’s foul on Louis Dennis resulted in a straight red card.

Bromley pressed for the winner, and a last minute through ball from Fuseini to Moses Emmanuel saw the forward take a touch before hitting a strike at goal from close range which was saved by Smith before being cleared by the defender.

Lincoln City moved to within a point of the play-off places after a 2-0 win against a Braintree Town side who started the day ahead of them in the table.

There was little in it in the opening half, with arguably the visiting Iron having slightly the better of the opportunities.

But the second half exploded into life with two quick goals which effectively killed Braintree`s challenge off.

Terry Hawkridge opened the scoring with a fine effort 8 minutes after the break when he picked the ball up on the left-hand side and fired home from the edge of the box with a low effort into the bottom corner past Will Norris.

Liam Hearn doubled the lead a minute later when he pounced to sweep home his 7th goal of the season after Jack Muldoon's initial effort was blocked.

Braintree tried to find a reply, but Greg Tempest did well to track a run by Kenny Davis and put the midfielder under pressure as he fired over.

And Lincoln quelled the visitors` other attempts to get back into the contest to secure the points and leap-frog them in the table.

Wrexham ended a six-match run without a win by securing a 1-0 success at Kingfield against Woking.

The only goal of the game came after 28 minutes when Connor Jennings played a one-two with Dominic Vose before slotting past Jake Cole for his third goal in three games.

Woking were reduced to ten-men on 65 minutes when Brian Saah was shown his second yellow card for a foul on Kayden Jackson.

And the home side were denied a penalty after John Goddard fell under the challenge of substitute Jon Nolan, but Wrexham had the better of the game overall.

Gateshead secured a late point after a 2-2 draw with Altrincham at the International Stadium.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Ryan Bowman put the Tynesiders ahead 4 minutes after half-time when he headed in Jordan Cranston's cross.

But on 77 minutes Michael Rankine got his third goal in four games to level against his former employers when he reacted quickest after Jake Moult's shot had been well saved by Sam Russell.

Just 2 minutes later George Bowerman gave Alty the lead when he fired home from inside the six-yard box.

But Jimmy Phillips' goal in the 2nd minute of stoppage time salvaged a point for Malcolm Crosby`s side.

Chester FC managed to edge home against second-bottom FC Halifax Town after a tense second half display.

Oxford United loanee James Roberts, who was returning to the Chester side after compassionate leave following news of the tragic death of his younger brother Ben, put the hosts in front a minute before the break.

Johnny Hunt doubled Chester`s lead 10 minutes after the break, but Halifax ensured the Blues endured a tense finale after James Burrow netted a 73rd minute reply.

Barrow AFC and Welling United shared the spoils at the Furness Building Society Stadium.

The hosts failed to make the most of their good first half performance and were punished when Steve Williams netted an own goal 3 minutes before the break.

Barrow made a good start to the second period and 8 minutes in, Andy Cook levelled matters to score his 10th goal of the season.

Both teams had chances to take all three points, with Barrow`s Jason Walker coming closest in stoppage time when he saw his effort saved by Tom King.

Luke Garrard`s first game in charge of Boreham Wood saw his side earn a battling point from a 1-1 draw at Nethermoor against fellow promotes Guiseley AFC.

A poor first half saw both sides struggle to create chances.

But the second half was an improvement, and Wood took the lead on the hour-mark when Clovis Kamdjo headed in past Guiseley keeper Steven Drench.

It looked as though that was going to be enough to win it for Wood, but in the last minute of normal time, Guiseley levelled after Joe Devera fouled Will Hatfield in the box and Nicky Boshell stepped up to fire the resulting penalty past James Russell.

Kidderminster Harriers remain bottom of the table and without a win in the after losing to fellow strugglers Southport at Aggborough.

Harriers` midfielder Ben Whitfield twice went close in the first half but saw both of his efforts hit the woodwork.

Southport tested Kidderminster keeper Dean Snedker through strikes from Gary Jones and Cole Stockton before Andy Bishop secured all three points with 7 minutes remaining when the former Wrexham striker`s close range header beat Snedker.
