Saturday's Round-Up: Vanarama National League South

By Steve Whitney

Braintree Town moved level on points with leaders Dartford on Saturday after beating Bognor Regis Town 3-0 at Cressing Road.

It only took Darnell Wynter just 21 seconds to open the scoring for the Iron, curling a shot into the top corner from the corner of the box.

The Rocks settled down after that lightening start and it proved to be the only goal of the half.

Eight minutes after the break, Braintree doubled their lead when Billy Crook dinked a ball to Wynter, on to Samir Bihmoutine, whose first-time low cross found Karl Oliyide who met it with a lovely finish at a tight angle.

And then in stoppage time, sub Marcel Barrington was slipped through one-on-one with Bognor `keeper Dan Lincoln and powered home number three.

Welling United are now third after winning 2-1 at Clarence Park against seventh-placed St Albans City.

Joe Healy a minute before the break and then Jack Jebb after 67 minutes struck for the Wings, who held on for the points after a stoppage time reply from Nathaniel Pinney.

It was St Albans` third successive league defeat.

Havant & Waterlooville moved above the Saints into fifth after a 1-0 win at Bulpit Lane against Hungerford Town.

And what a day for Hawks` striker Jason Prior.

His goal – the match-winner – in the 72nd minute was his 8th goal in successive matches – a new club record.

Hampton & Richmond Borough are just a couple of points off the top seven after they made it eleven league games unbeaten as they also won 1-0 on Saturday.

The Beavers beat Chippenham Town at the Beveree in the two club`s first ever meeting.

The only goal came 15 minutes from time when a counter-attack led by Max Kretzschmar and Malachi Napa was finished off in style by Bradley Hudson-Odoi.

Bottom-markers Whitehawk picked up only their fourth point of the campaign to date in a 1-1 Enclosed Ground draw with Bath City.

City led through Jamie Lucas` penalty just before half-time.

But the Hawks grabbed a share of the spoils through Kodi Lyons-Foster with 9 minutes remaining.

Concord Rangers slipped out of the drop zone and replaced by Bognor, after also drawing 1-1 at home by Gloucester City.

The Beachboys led through a 27th minute penalty conversion by Steve Cawley.

However, Chris Knowles earned the Tigers a point with a 63rd minute equaliser.

Saturday`s only other game saw Weston-super-Mare win an amazing seven-goal thriller at East Thurrock United.

It took only 6 minutes for Sam Higgins to put the home Rocks in front.

Dayle Grubb responded for the Seagulls within 7 minutes and that`s how the sides went into the break.

Five minutes into the second period, Higgins restored the Essex side`s lead, but once more Weston responded quickly, Gethyn Hill netting within 4 minutes.

And then just 2 minutes later, Grubb netted his second to put Weston in front for the first time.

Jake Lee then made it 4-2 to the visitors in the 76th minutes, but a nervy end was assured after Lee Burns pulled a third back for John Coventry`s side in the 81st minute.
