Saturday`s Pre-Season Friendly Review....

A round-up of Saturday`s friendlies involving teams in the Vanarama National Leagues.

National League newcomers Ebbsfleet United honoured the late Paul McCarthy in style against Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.

A crowd of over 2,000 at Stonebridge Road came to honour the Fleet`s former skipper and later assistant-manager and saw the home side triumph 3-1 against a youthful Spurs side.

Darren McQueen gave Fleet a 15th minute lead and then new signing Luke Coulson doubled the home side`s lead from 20 yards early in the second half.

Shayon Harrison, who made his senior debut for Spurs last season, reduced the arrears 5 minutes later, only for Danny Kedwell to make it 3-1 from the penalty spot 3 minutes from time.

Relegated Hartlepool United suffered their first pre-season set-back, beaten 2-1 at the CNG Stadium by National League North side Harrogate Town.

A competitive game saw late goals from Dominic Knowles and George Thomson cancel out Nicky Deverdics` 20-yard reply for Pools.

Leyton Orient, who came down with Hartlepool, hammered Bostik League Premier side Harlow Town 6-1 at The Harlow Arena.

A debut brace from striker Macauley Bonne and singles from David Mooney, a brace from Tristan Abrahams and a triallist turned things around after the O`s had fallen behind to Junior Dadson’s 21st minute strike.

Orient`s new league rivals AFC Fylde, champions of the National League North, were beaten 1-0 at Mill Farm by League One Rochdale, thanks to Steven Davies’ wonderful second half free-kick.

National League side Maidstone United had a terrific crowd of 4,101 for the game against a Premier League Crystal Palace outfit.

It`s just a shame that Palace, who won 3-1 with Jordan Mutch bagging a brace and Jacob Berkeley the third, with Joe Pigott netting for the Stones, had to bring a mainly under-23 squad for such a big occasion for the hosts.

One of the favourites for the title, Tranmere Rovers, enjoyed an 11-0 romp at Hallmark Security Leaguers Cammell Laird.

James Alabi bagged five, fellow new boy Elliott Rokka, Andy Cook, Jay Harris, Adam Dawson, James Norwood and Andy Mangan all found the net as it was 9-0 at half-time!

Gateshead shared a 1-1 draw with Evo-Stik League North newcomers South Shields.

Former Heed favourite Jon Shaw gave Buildbase FA Vase winners Shields an early lead before Robbie Tinkler levelled things up in the second period.

National League newcomers Maidenhead United`s first game of the day was at now Uhlsport Hellenic League neighbours Windsor FC.

And the Magpies ran out 6-0 winners with goals from Kofi Boateng, a Chinedu McKenzie penalty and four goals from last season`s top scorer Dave Tarpey.

Solihull Moors edged out Championship side Walsall by the odd goal in five at the Automated Technology Group Stadium.

The Saddlers took an early lead through Maz Kouhyar.

New signing Jermaine Hylton equalised early in the second period and then put his side ahead shortly afterwards.

Jack Edwards equalised and then Joel Kettle won it for Moors 5 minutes from time.

Boreham Wood ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at the Carlsberg Stadium against Evo-Stik League South Premier outfit Biggleswade Town.

Angelo Balanta bagged a brace for an impressive Wood.

New signing Billy Priestley scored the only goal of the game at the Impact Arena as National League North side Alfreton Town beat National League returnees FC Halifax Town 1-0.

Macclesfield Town lost 2-0 to Championship side Derby County at the Moss Rose.

A fine strike from Bradley Johnson and a header from Mason Bennett won it for the almost full-strength Rams.

Bromley saw off Southern Counties East League neighbours Beckenham Town 4-0.

Goals from Louis Dennis, George Porter, Josh Rees and Brett Williams round off an impressive performance at Eden Park Avenue.

Bromley`s Kent rivals Dover Athletic shared a 2-2 Crabble draw with League One neighbours Gillingham.

New-look Dover opened the scoring through one of many summer signings, Ryan Bird, but after Conor Wilkinson had missed a spot-kick, he made amends by equalising on the half-hour mark.

Luke O`Neil then gave the Gills the lead on the hour-mark, only for another of the Whites` recent signings, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, to level 2 minutes later.

Barrow AFC and National League North side Boston United shared a 1-1 Jakemans Stadium draw.

Ashley Hemmings gave the Pilgrims a 41st minute lead and Richie Bennett maintained his good pre-season form with a 51st minute equaliser.

Guiseley AFC were 2-0 winners at Toolstation Northern Counties East League side Parkgate.

Strikes from an un-named triallist and Will Hatfield sealed the Lions first win of pre-season.

Wrexham maintained their 100% record in pre-season with a 2-1 win at Evo-Stik League Premier side Stafford Rangers.

A goal inside the opening minute from Scott Boden gave the Dragons the perfect start.

But Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson drew the home side level from the penalty spot moments afterwards.

James Jennings restored the Dragons lead before the interval to make it four wins from four matches.

Aldershot Town were beaten 2-1 at the Beveree by National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Shamir Fenelon’s neat 47th minute finish pulled The Shots level after Max Kretzschmar’s 4th minute opener, but Brendan Kiernan scored a late winner for the Beavers.

Hemel Hempstead Town were another South side beating a Premier outfit in Sutton United – and at Gander Green Lane too.

A 79th minute free-kick from Ben Greenhalgh won it for the Tudors.

National League South newcomers Bognor Regis Town were beaten 2-0 at Nyewood Land by League One side Portsmouth.

Brett Pittman bagged both goals for Pompey in the 5th and 86th minutes.

Bognor`s new league rivals, Braintree Town, were beaten 2-1 at Cressing Road by League One side Southend United, who finished with ten-men following the dismissal of Michael Timlin for violent conduct on the hour-mark.

But the Shrimpers were still able to win, thanks to goals from Simon Cox and Marc-Antoine Fortune, with Karl Oliyide replying for the Iron.

Much-changed Welling United lost 3-0 at Park View Road to League One Charlton Athletic.

Jason Pearce, Patrick Bauer and Mikhail Kennedy were the Addicks` marksmen.

Welling`s league rivals Chelmsford City were 1-0 winners at Bostik North new boys Canvey Island.

Kane Haysman grabbed the only goal of the game in the 58th minute.

Chelmsford`s new league rivals Gloucester City, switched from the north to accommodate Leamington, shared a 1-1 draw with League One Bristol Rovers at Thornhill Park.

Ellis Harrison, who struck past Alex Harris to give Rovers parity after former Rovers forward Eliot Richards had put the Tigers ahead after 10 minutes.

Poole Town enjoyed a 10-1 romp at Wessex Leaguers Hamworthy United.
Amongst the Dolphins on target were Tony Lee, who netted a hat-trick and Lee Roberts a brace.

Oxford City suffered a 1-0 Marsh Farm defeat to Evo-Stik League South Premier side Banbury United.

A late goal from Chris Withington giving the Puritans a surprise win.

Weston-super-Mare lost 4-0 at the Woodspring Stadium to League One newcomers Plymouth Argyle.

Jake Jervis bagged a brace, with Ruben Lameiras and former non-League striker Nathan Blissett adding the others.

Weston`s new league rivals Chippenham Town, shared a 1-1 draw at Evo-Stik League Premier South Frome Town.

Jake Jackson put Frome in front in the first half.

Chippenham`s Andy Sandell equalised from the spot in the second half.

Wealdstone beat a Watford XI 1-0 at The Vale.

A late goal from Abobaker Eisa saw off the Premier League youngsters.

Havant & Waterlooville, returning to the National League South via the Bostik League, were 2-0 winners at Westleigh Park against Evo-Stik League South Premier side Farnborough.

Jason Prior bagged both for the Hawks in the second half – his second from the spot.

Warren Mfula scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute as Dartford won 1-0 at Bostik South side Phoenix Sports.

St Albans City were beaten 3-2 at Clarence Park by ambitious Bostik Premier side Billericay Town.

Late goals from Charlie Cole and Sam Deering saw the Essex visitors come back from 2-1 down at the break.

Earlier, Zane Banton and Rhys Murrell-Williamson had cancelled out Louie Theophanous` 27th minute opener for Billericay.

Truro City made no mistake, beating South West Peninsula Leaguers Falmouth Town 6-0 at Treyew Road.

National League North side Stockport County lost 2-1 to Championship side Preston North End at Edgeley Park.

Jason Oswell opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark for County before Callum Robinson levelled things up and then Tom Barkhuizen sealed the visitors` win 6 minutes before half-time in Alex Neil`s first game in charge.

Kidderminster Harriers hit Midland Leaguers Stourport Swifts for eight.

Joe Ironside helped himself to half of the goals, with Ryan Croasdale, Sam Austin, Andre Brown and Liam Truslove completing the rout.

Harriers` new-look league rivals Gainsborough Trinity were impressive in beating s youthful side from League Two new boys Lincoln City 4-1 to progress in the Lincolshire County Cup.

Former Imps` striker Alex Simmons bagged a brace for Trinity, with Bradley Wells and an Ash Worsfold penalty completing the scoring.

Two penalties from Reece Styche and a John Dodd goal gave Tamworth a 3-2 win in their second game of the day against Welsh side Penybont.

Earlier though, Andy Morrell`s side had lost 3-1 at Welsh Premier side Cefn Druids.

The visitors were ahead on 30 minutes as Lambs triallist Rhys Sharp fouled Naim Arsan and Stuart Cook slotted home from the spot.

Tamworth were level on 38 minutes with the goal again coming from the spot. Neil Ashton was adjudged to have handled in the area and Reid coolly converted.

Druids went in front on 81 minutes as Owain Ap Gareth struck from distance and Arsan made it 3-1 2 minutes later.

Rather unusually, National League North rivals Salford City and FC United of Manchester played each other in a pre-season friendly at Moor Lane.

The Ammies ran out 2-1 winners, Mani Dieseruvwe and Lois Maynard with the home goals, Tom Greaves replying 4 minutes from time.

North Ferriby United, relegated to the National League North, claimed the Billy Bly Memorial Trophy by beating a squad from now Championship side Hull City 3-1.

Joel Ambalu gave the Villagers a 29th minute lead that Elliott Holmes cancelled out just before the break.

But goals from Danny Emberton and Alberto won it for Steve Housham`s side.

Southport, who came down with Ferriby, lost 3-1 at the Merseyrail Community Stadium to League One neighbours Blackpool.

Goals from Kyle Vassell, Armand Gnanduillet and Bright Osayi-Samuel were enough to see off Port, who netted a consolation goal 10 minutes from time from Kaiman Anderson.

Southport`s new league rivals Blyth Spartans, promoted as champions of the Evo-Stik League Premier, were beaten 3-0 at Croft Park by League Two side Carlisle United.

Hallam Hope, Gary Liddle and a triallist were on target for the Cumbrians.

Spennymoor Town, who came up with Blyth, were 9-0 winners at NCEL outfit Pickering Town.

The Moors` marksmen were Glen Taylor with a hat-trick, David Foley and Rob Ramshaw with braces and Kallum Griffiths and Andrew Johnson singles.

Another National League North side, Brackley Town, travelled to the north of Northamptonshire to face Evo-Stik League South hosts Corby Town and won 1-0 at Steel Park, thanks to a Shane Byrne effort.
