Saturday Preview: Vanarama National League

By David Richardson

Match day five in the Vanarama National League is almost here! Tuesday night's fixtures were thrilling, with a total of 45 goals scored, so how could we possibly beat that for entertainment? Well, these set of matches might just do it!

Bromley will look to sink another one of the clubs relegated from the Football League on their 3G pitch after smashing Leyton Orient 6-1 in mid-week. Hartlepool United are the visitors to Hayes Lane, having not yet claimed their first National League win.

Kent-based Maidstone United ended Aldershot Town's winning run with a late equaliser, and they host Wrexham, who picked up their second victory of the season thanks to a strike from debutant striker Alex Reid. The Shots travel to Boreham Wood - the two sides lead the way for goals scored, with Aldershot on 12 and The Wood just behind on 11.

Torquay United parted ways with manager Kevin Nicholson following their 4-2 home defeat to Boreham. Robbie Herrera will be the stand-in Gulls boss as they head to Guiseley, who bounced back from a 6-0 thrashing at Aldershot to draw 0-0 at home with Tranmere Rovers.

Micky Mellon's Rovers visit Eastleigh - Richard Hill's side fresh from losing their unbeaten record at Woking. The Cards host Leyton Orient, a side hoping for a much improved performance than Tuesday.

Dagenham and Redbridge drew 3-3 with Ebbsfleet United in a thriller, and now travel to AFC Fylde while Fleet visit Maidenhead United. The Magpies won 4-1 at Fylde on Tuesday night with striker Dave Tarpey netting all four to take his total for the season to seven.

Dover Atheltic picked up their third win of the campaign in the 95th minute at FC Halifax Town. The Whites host Barrow, who lost to Halifax's opponents Solihull Moors.

Sutton United's good start continued with two late goals in two minutes to see off Macclesfield Town. Gateshead host the Silkmen, with Chester the visitors to Sutton's Gander Green Lane.
