Saturday Preview: National League North & South FA Cup Ties

The FA Cup third qualifying round sees many teams teams from the Vanarama National League North and South in action this Saturday

Vanarama National League North side Chorley will get the day underway with their match away at Ashton Athletic live on the BBC Sport website which has a 12:30 kick-off, the Magpies are three leagues higher than their opponents and won their last league game after defeating AFC Telford United 3-2, to remain just outside the play-off places, writes Tom Feaheny.

There are three all Vanarama National League North ties as Stockport County take on FC United of Manchester, both sides gained a win last weekend in the league, with County seven points clear of their opponents, these two sides have yet to meet in the league this season.

Two sides who are at the wrong end of the table meet in Leamington and Gainsborough Trinity, with three points separating the sides, the Brakes are on a four game unbeaten run in all competitions, while Trinity were narrowly beaten by Salford City last weekend as they went to 21st in the table.

There is a Yorkshire derby at the CNG Stadium as Harrogate Town and Bradford Park Avenue face each other, Town gained an impressive win over York last weekend to remain top of the table while Avenue saw their unbeaten run end at eight games.

Several Vanarama National League North sides are aiming to avoid being involved in shock results as former Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray takes his Boston United team to NCEL Premier side AFC Mansfield, with there being three leagues separating the two sides.

Last seasons FA Vase winners South Shields take on the current FA Trophy holders in York City, while Shields recently lost their first match of 2017, they take on Gary Mills's side who will be looking to getting back to winning ways after losing the North Yorkshire derby last weekend.

Also playing are Nuneaton Town who made it back to back wins thanks to back to back hat-tricks from Ashley Chambers they travel to Nantwich Town, there is set to be an impressive crowd at Newcastle Benfield as they face Kidderminster Harriers, John Eustace's side were on the BBC Sport site in the last round and were able to avoid an upset.

John McDermott's Alfreton Town lost for the first time in five games last weekend, they take on an Evo-Stik Premier team who missed out on promotion to the Vanarama National League North last season in Stourbridge who lost in the play-off final but are currently 2nd in the league now and there is a local derby between Stafford Rangers and AFC Telford United as well.

There is one game between the Vanarama National League North and South sides and it sees two teams in form face each other as Brackley Town who are third in the North take on Braintree Town who won their last game 5-0 and sit second in the South.

There are two all Vanarama National League South ties as Eastbourne Borough boss Jamie Howell returns to his old club Bognor Regis Town for a second time since helping them gain promotion last season, Borough defeated Bognor in the league 1-0 in August and Bath City who are still looking for a new boss take on Hemel Hempstead Town, just a single point is between these two sides in the league.

Meanwhile twelve Vanarama National League South sides are aiming to avoid upsets, in form Truro City top the league and have won their last five matches they take on AFC Sudbury, another team who have impressed in the league are St Albans City, they are third and four games unbeaten they host Bridport.

Fourth in the table East Thurrock United sit just two points off top despite not winning their last two games, they face Harlow Town who have lost their last three matches in all competitions, Dartford were defeated last weekend 3-0 and could have been top if they had won they face Needham Market.

Another side who lost last weekend were Havant & Waterlooville they sit in the final play-off place and take on Hayes & Yeading, while Chelmsford City are a place above in sixth and host Weymouth.

Hungerford Town who have lost their previous two league games take on big spending Billericay Town, Wealdstone will be hoping they can continue their unbeaten run that is currently at four games in all competitions as they travel to Burgess Hill Town.

There are away trips for Hampton & Richmond who face Cinderford Town, Poole Town take on Slough Town, while Concord Rangers will be hoping they can gain more momentum from a cup run as they drew their last league game after their previous cup victory, they host Dorking Wanderers and Oxford City go up against Leiston.
