Same Goal Different Club For New Iron Recruit Nicholson

By Tom Scott

Brad Nicholson knows how desperately Scunthorpe United want promotion - he was the architect of their downfall last season!

Nicholson - who joins the Iron from their play-off conquerors Boston United - says he wants to channel last season's success to go one better this time around with his new club.

The defender was part of the Pilgrims' side that ended his new club's promotion hopes in the semi-finals back in April.

He went on to win promotion but fancies doing it all over again - only a bit quicker this time.

"I’m really excited to join this massive club, we don’t belong where we are so it’s my goal to get us back where we should be," he told Scunthorpe United on signing.

"As bad as it sounds, it [play-off semi-final win at the Attis Arena] was a good day for me and one that I’ll never forget, but I’m hoping that I can go one step further and win the league with this team.

"Obviously, we’re wanting to go one better this year, and actually go on and win the league and we’re going to do everything it takes to get back up there.”

Nicholson had been training with Gateshead in pre-season and admits he's turned down offers in higher divisions to stay in Lincolnshire.

He said: "I’ve been training with Gateshead to keep myself in shape

"I’ve had a few offers from clubs in the league above, but this opportunity just ticked all the boxes for me and my family."

Nicholson joins former Chesterfield and AFC Fylde midfielder Joe Rowley who also penned a deal with the club this week.
