The Ammies lost the top spot they earned back last Tuesday when they could only draw with Eastleigh on Saturday.
A goal very late in the day earned them what could turn out to be a priceless point. Lois Maynard struck at the death to make it 1-1 in Hampshire.
Salford may not be losing games but they have now drawn three of their last four in a period where they haven’t come up against any of the sides currently occupying a top seven place.
They face Shrewsbury in the FA Cup on Sunday and their manager John Askey knows a thing of two about National League players having taken Macclesfield to the title last season.
Alexander said: “We know there are a lot of things we can do better.
“At times we have been sloppy and we need to improve in certain areas.
“Overall I think we deserved a point against Eastleigh. They did well against Leyton Orient a few days before so we knew it was going to be a big test for us.
“But we need to be doing more in certain situations.”
