Saints In Shock As Loyal Fan Dies At Their Ground

St Albans City have this afternoon announced the tragic death of a long-serving supporter, who passed away at Clarence Park this morning.

Clive Churchhouse died after what the club say was an “accident” at the ground. Tonight’s friendly against Luton Town has been called off as a mark of respect.

St Albans chairman Lawrence Levy says the whole club is deeply shocked and saddened at the passing of what they call one of their most longest-serving supporters.

“We are all completely devastated by the news,” Saints chairman Lawrence Levy wrote in a statement of the club’s website.

“Clive was a much loved character around the club with a big personality who regularly helped out at the ground and on away trips with the team.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Valerie, daughter Sallyann, son Keith and his grandchildren as well as his wide circle of friends at this very sad time.”

Luton will now play Hitchin Town of the Southern League instead.
