Rovers lost 2-1 to both Solihull Moors and Hartlepool United to finish off their campaign with second-place already wrapped up.
Mellon opted for a youthful team against Solihull before bringing most of his first-team players back for Saturday’s final game.
However, he reckons his side were playing with caution and that the handbrake will be definitely off next Saturday when they host either Aldershot or Ebbsfleet in the play-off semi-finals.
“We looked like a team that were making sure they were going to be ready for Saturday,” Mellon told the club’s YouTube channel after the Hartlepool defeat.
“We’ve got that out of the way now, we haven’t got any injuries so we move on to Monday and have a clear week.
“Over 46 games, the measurements are there. The good players now perform in the play-offs and the rest will be watching on.
“We won’t play with the handbrake on next weekend, that’s for sure. The advantage is we’ll be at home and hopefully have 14 or 15 thousand behind us.
“We’ll all enjoy the build-up this week and then get fighting for the prize which is getting through to the next round. We’ll all be ready.”
