The 27-year-old started his career with Lorient in France where he spent eight years which included a short spell on loan with Doncaster Rovers, then in the Championship, during the 2012/13 season.
Robert, who once represented France at under-20 level, played thirteen times for Rovers, scoring twice before heading back to France.
After making a total of fifty-one appearances in Ligue 1, he embarked on a second spell in England with Swindon Town last season, joining the club after impressing on trial.
Robert, who is the brother of former Newcastle star Laurent, went onto to play thirty-eight times for the Robins before being allowed to leave the club, despite an option for another year being available.
He spent the majority of pre-season on trial with League One Coventry City but, despite featuring in three of the Sky Blues’ pre-season friendlies, against Newport County, Norwich City and Nuneaton Town, he was unable to obtain a contract.
