Round-Up: Saturday's Pre-Season Friendly Action

Leyton Orient gained a good 2-1 win at New Lodge against ambitious Bostik League Premier side Billericay Town.

All eyes were on Town`s latest high-profile recruit, former Arsenal and Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant, who played the full 90 minutes.

McCauley Bonne and Jack Caprice scored the O`s goals, while Pennant had a hand in Sam Deering`s reply for Billericay.

Fellow newcomers Hartlepool United had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Ebac Northern League First Division Whitley Bay`s Hillheads Park.

Pools got off to an ideal start when Lewis Maloney drove in to space 25 yards out before hitting a crisp shot which whistled past the keeper and in to the net to make it 1-0.

But Callum Patton equalised for Bay early in the second half.

Dagenham & Redbridge lost their game against League Two Stevenage at Victoria Road.

The first goal of the game came within the first 15 minutes through Luke Wilkinson.

And they doubled their lead before the break when Dagenham’s attempted passing out from the back was punished by Mark McKee.

National League North side Harrogate Town ended their pre-season campaign with a win as National League Gateshead were rolled over 3-0 at The CNG Stadium.

Two Jordan Thewlis goals within 5 first half minutes did the damage.

After providing the first, George Thomson fired home Town's third and final goal of the afternoon in emphatic style from 20 yards.

Ebbsfleet United went down to a 2-1 Stonebridge Road defeat to League One AFC Wimbledon.

Cody McDonald missed the chance to open the scoring 10 minutes into the second half, but his spot-kick was well saved by Nathan Ashmore.

However, the Dons went ahead from the resulting corner through Barry Fuller.

The lead only lasted only 3 minutes though as Jack Powell netted direct from a free-kick.

The visitors re-took the lead on 68 minutes, Andy Barcham rifling a fine effort into the top corner.

FC Halifax Town lost 3-0 to neighbours Bradford City in their final game of pre-season, played behind-closed-doors at The Shay.

Omari Patrick put City ahead just after half-time before Ellis Hudson put the result beyond doubt with a late brace.

Macclesfield Town went down to a 2-0 Moss Rose defeat to League One newcomers Blackpool.

Mark Cullen bagged a second half brace for the Seasiders.

Woking also lost at home, 3-0 to League Two Swindon Town.

Luke Norris broke the deadlock at the Laithwaite Community Stadium in the 66th minute.

Dion Conroy’s 79th minute header, followed by former Woking man John Goddard finding the net completed victory.

Maidstone United rounded off their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 3-0 win over Southend United`s under-21s at the Gallagher Stadium.

The Stones won with a brace from Joe Pigott and one from Stuart Lewis.

Bromley enjoyed a good 2-1 win over a Crystal Palace XI at Hayes Lane.

Louis Dennis and Ben Williamson were the Ravens on the mark.

Nyal Bell’s superb second half goal earned Chester FC a 1-1 draw against League Two Port Vale.

Bell curled home a fine effort from 16 yards on 68 minutes to cancel out Rekeil Pyke’s opener on the hour-mark.

Chester`s neighbours and league rivals Wrexham also shared a 1-1 draw at Victory Park against National League North side Chorley.

Scott Boden gave the visitors a 35th minute lead, only for Courtney Meppen-Walter equalised with a fine free-kick on 56 minutes.

Wrexham missed an 82nd minute spot-kick when Ntumba Massanka`s effort was saved by Matt Unwin.

Another North v National encounter between Curzon Ashton and promoted AFC Fylde also ended 1-1 at the Tameside Stadium.

Andy Bond gave the visiting Coasters a 35th minute lead.

The Nash equalised 6 minutes from time through Max Leonard.

And another North v National encounter took place not far away at Edgeley Park where Stockport County were beaten 1-0 by Barrow AFC.

New signing (see separate news item) Adi Yussuf scored the only goal in the 13th minute.

Dover Athletic enjoyed a 3-0 Crabble win against Bostik Premier neighbours Margate.

Jamie Allen bagged a brace for the Whites and Kane Richards the other.

There were no goals at Nethermoor where Guiseley AFC and National League North side Darlington FC shared the spoils.

Solihull Moors won 2-0 at Evo-Stik South Premier side Stratford Town.

Former Forest Green Rovers midfielder Darren Carter and Jermaine Hylton scored second half goals for Moors.

A National South v National encounter at Gander Green Lane saw Sutton United win 2-1 against Chelmsford City.

Kieron Cadogan bagged a brace for the U`s after Michael West had given City a 19th minute lead.

National League North newcomers Blyth Spartans were held to a 2-2 draw by Evo-Stik League North new boys South Shields at Croft Park.
A brace from Daniel Maguire gave Spartans a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.

Shields made no less than eight changes at the break, which invigorated the visitors – as an un-named triallist clawed one back on the hour-mark.

Ryan Hutchinson was adjudged to have handled in the area on 77 minutes, which saw the Mariners awarded a penalty. Substitute Carl Finnigan stepped up to drill it past Shaun MacDonald’s outstretched hand, to ensure the two sides couldn’t be separated.

A Richie Allen goal was enough to give Salford City the third victory of their pre-season in the annual friendly National League South outfit Hampton & Richmond Borough.

York City suffered a late 2-1 defeat as League Two visitors Notts County struck at the end of each half at Bootham Crescent.

The Magpies enjoyed an interval advantage, courtesy of their new Gibraltar international Liam Walker, until Jon Parkin equalised from the penalty spot with 7 minutes remaining.

But County then grabbed an injury-time winner through triallist defender Pierce Bird.

Southport, relegated from the National League, suffered a 5-0 Merseyrail Community Stadium defeat to a League Two Accrington Stanley side managed by former Port boss John Coleman.

Billy Kee scored a first half hat-trick for a rampant Stanley.

Boston United suffered their first defeat of pre-season as they ended their warm-up matches with a 3-0 defeat at Evo-Stik League Premier outfit Hednesford Town.

Jordan Nadat, Lee Smith and James Lawrie found the net against a Pilgrims squad who had only conceded twice in their previous five contests.

Alfreton Town were beaten 2-0 by League Two neighbours Mansfield Town at the Impact Arena.

Second half goals from forward Danny Rose and midfielder Jacob Mellis ensured victory for the Stags.

Bradford Park Avenue went down to a 4-2 Horsfall Stadium defeat to an Altrincham side relegated to the Evo-Stik League Premier at the end of last season.

Wayne Brooksby and Adam Boyes for Avenue, a Jake Moult penalty, John Johnston, John Disney and Josh Amis or Alty.

Gainsborough Trinity were also beaten 4-2 by Evo-Stik Premier opposition in Buxton at Silverlands.

Liam Hardy netted a hat-trick for the Bucks, with Ant Wilson and Nathan Jarman for Trinity.

Braintree Town, relegated to the National League South, beat a Reading XI 2-0 at Cressing Road.

Second half goals from Shane McLoughlin and Billy Crook from the spot secured a good Iron win.

Concord Rangers secured a 3-1 win against League Two Barnet

The Beach Boys went ahead after 12 minutes through Jordan Cox.

Lewis Taaffe doubled the lead in the final 15 minutes.

Justin Amulazor scored a consolation for Barnet but Kyron Farrell smashed a 20-yard volley into the net to round off a fine performance by Rangers.

Gloucester City, switched to the south, were beaten 3-1 by Championship side Derby County.

Luke Thomas bagged a brace for the Rams, with his brother Kieran netting the Tigers` reply from the spot.

Emile Jakobsen added Derby`s third.

It finished goalless at The Meadow between St Albans City and Evo-Stik League South Premier hosts Chesham United.

There was a shock in store for returness Havant & Waterlooville as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Evo-Stik South East new boys Moneyfields.

Ryan Pennery scored the only goal after 64 minutes at Westleigh Park.

Wealdstone, however, won 4-2 at Top Field against Evo-Stik South Premier outfit Hitchin Town.

Weston-super-Mare enjoyed a good 3-1 win the the Raymond McEnhill Stadium against Evo-Stik South West hosts Salisbury FC.

Jerrard Welch and a Dayle Grubb brace had the Seagulls 3-0 up at the break.

Marvin Brooks reduced the arrears on 56 minutes.

Bath City completed their pre-season campaign with a fifth win in a row, beating Evo-Stik South West neighbours Yate Town 3-0 at Lodge Road.

Marvin Morgan, Naby Diallo and Jamie Lucas were the Romans on the mark.

The Dorset derby between Poole Town and Evo-Stik South Premier hosts Weymouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium finished honours` even at one apiece.

Tony Lee equalised for the Dolphins after Harry Basker had given the Terras a first half lead.

Dartford enjoyed a 4-0 win at Bostik South hosts Thamesmead Town.

Elliot Bradbrook netted a hat-trick and Warren Mfula the other for Tony Burman`s side.
