Romans Don’t Get It Right On Their Big Community Day

Bath City missed a golden opportunity to impress some new fans after coming unstuck against Welling United.

The club’s Community Day saw supporters pay what they want to see the National League South match.

Some 1,585 saw it - their highest crowd since 2011.

But with double the normal attendance inside Twerton Park, the team didn’t produce the goods as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Steve King’s Wings.

Bath manager Jerry Gill told Somerset Live that errors were costly.

“Two bad mistakes from us were the difference - Ryan and Jack Batten get mixed up for the first one, Jack's got to deal with it, clear his lines,” he said.

“Even if Ryan has said anything or hasn't said anything, just clear his lines as a centre-back.

“Then Jack gets bullied for the second goal, which was poor defending.

“The back four have been really good this season, but today I thought they got dominated at times.

“Their midfield three especially were very good, and their back four defended really admirably, headed everything and cleared everything.

“That was the difference; the two defences. We've made two mistakes and it's cost us a game, and they've defended really, really well when we didn't deserve to get anything from the game as well.”
