Rocking All Over The World! East Thurrock Hit New Heights

East Thurrock United are the Vanarama National League South's shock leaders - but they're not taking any notice of the league table just yet!

Monday night's fine 2-1 win over Chelmsford City took John Coventry's team to the division's top spot.

It is the highest place the club has held in its long history.

Coventry knows it is an achievement to be where they are but you won't find the "realistic" Rocks reading too much into their great start."

"I'm so pleased for everyone at the club - the players have been fantastic. It's a proud feeling," the manager told the National League's Oli Osborn.

"But we won't be getting over excited at our position, but that's not to say we can't enjoy the moment because we deserve to.

"You can't look at the table at this time of the season really, but we will take it! We are still in the first two weeks of September and we are realistic."

Coventry doesn't think many clubs will come away from Melbourne with a win this season.

"To come to a place like Chelmsford City and win is never easy but we played well," he said.

"You know every time you play against a Rod Stringer side it is going to be tough, it always is but they players were marvellous.

"We have good players here who work really really hard - whenever we sign a new player it is so important that they buy into that and they have done.

"If you put a squad together of good players it gives you have a chance and we have certainly done that."
