Riley Makes In New Arrival Number 14 For Active Alfreton

Alfreton Town are showing a statement of intent - as they welcome their 14th player to join the club this summer, writes Aidan Jones.

The Reds have completed the signing of highly experienced defender Martin Riley, who joins on a one-year deal from FC Halifax Town.

Riley was signed by Heath last summer for the Shaymen, but thanks to a very unfortunate injury away to Solihull Moors meant a long term injury break for the defender.

The 31-year old started out at Wolverhampton Wanderers in their youth set up but didn’t make a professional appearance for the Wolves.

He has played at National League level before but has never performed below that throughout his career.

The former Kidderminster man only managed one appearance for Halifax Town last season, before leaving the club.

Manager Heath believes that the defender’s experience and how key it will be for his time at Alfreton.

He said: “Martin is an absolutely brilliant signing for us, he has played for some really good clubs and is vastly experienced.

“His experience both at football league level as well as Conference Premier level is huge for us and it will add some know how to our back line.

“He is a good player, a leader and very vocal which is always important at the back,” Heath added.
